The massive virtual reality game The Proving Grounds had a bit of a rocky start, but with some outside help the developers got it under control.
But technological progress doesn’t wait for anyone and a new advance is already in the works a form of input that builds on their standing devices and works via the players thoughts. Early tests were less than successful, which saw the device shelved early in production, but now a new test subject has been found…
An unconscious subject. Peter is a coma patient whose doctors heard about the device and reached out to the company in hopes of maybe getting a glimpse into his mind.
They got more. Much more. Peter has awoken to a new world, but a world he is unable to leave as he is still comatose on the outside. In the hopes of gathering more data and finding a way to help him, he’s let out into the world… with some oversight.
Unfortunately nothing new comes without issues to resolve, and the timing couldn’t be worse as new problems spring up around them. But when the world is in danger and he is sent away for his own safety, Peter finds it hard to sit idle. After all, his friends and his new world, his only world, need the help.
And yet it’s possible none of these problems would have arisen without him…

this third book in the series was pretty good. it introduced another main character but relied heavily upon the previous MCs in the series for supporting characters. The on going story revolves around the gaming company employees that make and upkeep the game in a one track way that may be annoying to some people. I liked the story myself and am okay with that. I would like to see it expand its horizons a bit after this and focus back out onto the true players and story lines in the future though so it doesn't get stale. I would also like to see a bit more of the world with it actually all up and running as it was meant to be instead of relying on more game breaking hacks and game crashes being used to fuel the bad guys and the story lines.Product details

Growing Pains The Proving Grounds Book 3 eBook Wade Adrian Reviews
I loved this book. Great story progression! I was 60% through the book before I even realized that this was the third book in a series that I had already read the first two.
Whoops I'll be honest and say I made a mistake and read this as what I thought was the first installment of the series (I went back and read the previous installments after the fact), but the MC is just straight up better than Toby, Pete has a more likeable plotline, his past is a blank slate that holds multiple possiblities, I hope they come to fruition.
My review is based on having read 60% of the book which I gave up upon little action thus far and found the story not very interesting to continue. The story is as per the summary which is about a coma patient's introduction to a virtual reality game, he is a total newbie and knows nothing about anything is need to be lead by game support staff to teach him things every step of the way. So overall not very interesting thus far. I think he goes on and helps uncover and spoils the bad guys plot to mess with the game using what little he learns.
I didn't find the main character very interesting and thought his actions and the interactions between the various characters a bit bland. What made me give up reading was it was a bit too slow going for the plot to develop. I wasn't interested in reading about the main character's experiences through rehab using virtual reality so that he comes to grips with being in a body-less state within a game.
I've read far too many litrpg novels by now, to the point of nearly exhausting the genre. This novel, though, surprised me. I went in expecting something similar to the previous books or something RPG-heavy like the Play to Live or Way of the Shaman series.
What I got instead was an enjoyable musing into an area modern science has hardly explored, and deep character development for the MC that revolved around a perfect blend of humor and tragedy.
In essence, this is a wonderful science-fiction novel. Sure, it may have some litrpg elements, but those aren't necessary to make this a fun read.
Thank you for writing this book, and I look forward to reading more installments! ;)
Everytime Wade Adrian puts out a new Proving Grounds books, for some reason I’m surprised by the improvement in his story telling. I say each time “Oh, this is better.”
I’d consider this a stand alone novel in the Proving Grounds game world more than a sequel to anything else in series, though some familiar faces to make appearances and there are some call backs to the other books.
Pete’s been in a coma for the last two years and is using a experimental neural interface that’s allowed his mind to wake up and exist in the game. His doctors hope this stimulation will help him wake up but as far as the story goes it’s a new way to explain the ‘trapped in the game’ troupe. The first chapter sets up a potentially fascinating journey as Peter proves he can not only exist in the game world but actually feel pain and a full sensory experience. Something the other players can’t.
Unfortunately these raised stakes for Pete are a wasted story opportunity for the first 30% of the book as he’s taken through character creation then escorted by the game developers through his first level up, and later power leveled.
My favorite parts of the story are the times Pete gets to explore the game world, fight on his own, learn about what his class can do and even do some crafting.
It’s a lot more interesting than the more epic story of the devs and heralds dealing with the consequences of events that happened in the last two books and why the game world is glitching.
nice addition to the series! Nicely done!
for the record i did nor read the first two. the synaps of the storys didnt get me interested. this one did and i had fun reading it. i dont think it was too bad a impact on me that i didnt read the others but it would make it better probly. i liked Pete and the other characters. i kinda want more coma patient stories. the storyline was easy to follow and i just wish there had been more fun mundane things rpg related.
